HUNDLEY HEADLINES for February 26 – March 2, 2018



 
Notes:

WOW!  The school year is going by so quickly.  Please check out the events listed below.  There are many things coming up.  CAES will celebrate Read Across America this week!  A schedule of this week’s special Dr. Seuss events was sent home in your child’s agenda on Friday.  Don’t forget, Wednesday is the 100th day of school. Can you believe it!  Your child may dress as a 100 year old, if he/she’d like!  And remember to send in 100 items.  Torey brought in 100 lego pieces.  YAY, Torey!  Please, collect all Box Tops from family, friends, neighbors and send them into our class!  Thank you!


This week:
·       begin learning about desert ecosystems - desert animals and their adaptations, desert plants and desert food web
·       identify the characters, setting, and events in stories that we read aloud
·       review telling time to the hour on a standard analog clock and a digital clock
·       review the important descriptors of a penny, nickel, dime and quarter
·       learn how much each coin is worth and identify how many pennies is equal to a nickel, dime and quarter


Homework:
·       ask your child what the letters ‘G’, ‘R’, ‘E’, ‘A’ and ‘T’ stand for in G.R.E.A.T. – (Growth, Respect, Empathy, Accountability, Trustworthiness)  We have been learning and using these traits in our classroom.
·       read for 30 minutes each night – log 2 steps
·       IMPORTANT:  practice reading Power Words at Flash Speed, students need to know them to progress to the next level


Events:
-  February 26 – dress like your future self (Oh the Places You’ll Go)
-  February 27 – ‘Who’ hair day (Horton Hears a Who)
-  February 28 – hat day (The Cat in the Hat) and the 100th Day of School
-  March 1 – dress like a teacher (Hooray for Diffendoofer Day)
-  March 2 – wear green (Green Eggs and Ham); Dr. Seuss birthday
-  March 6 – Book Fair begins
-  March 7 – Parent Teacher conference day – NO SCHOOL for students
March 9 – Grand Lunch (our lunchtime is 12:40 – 1:10)
-  March 13 – PTA Kindergarten Program, students wear solid red shirt and black pants, be in Music room by 6:30
-  April 2-6 – SPRING BREAK
