Reading – We had fun reading books and watching some of them on video by the author Kevin Henkes.
Math – We are learning about patterns.
Unit Study – We are studying the five senses. We enjoyed smelling different scents and feeling different objects in the bag.
Our homework assignment is new, different and important! Our homework for the new reading series allows for quality time with your Kindergartener. Students are bringing home two reading books each night in their Reading Log Folders. They are expected to read each book for 15 minutes. Each 15 minutes counts as one step on their Reading Log Sheet and they should complete two steps each night for a total of 30 minutes. Please sign that this is done. You may read one of the books to them as one of their two reading steps. We will also be completing two steps each day at school. If students miss their night time steps, they are expected to make it up at some point during the school day. Please send the Reading Log Folder and all of it’s contents back each day. It is a running log between home and school. We will collect, save, and staple the completed logs in their folders for anyone to be able to check as they come into our room and check on the students. Thank you for your help in assisting us with this task. Please let me know if you have any questions. J And yes, students may also read books from home and log those on their Reading Log sheets.
Power Words: There should be a small bag for their weekly Power Words taped inside of their Reading Log Folder. Please quickly review these with the students each night. All Power Words should remain in the bag.
